This Year's Model Updates:

For 2006, the MX-5 gets its first top-to-bottom redesign since its launch in 1989. The roadster gains a roomier cockpit but still tips the scales at under 2,500 pounds. Beneath the hood, the MX-5 benefits from an all-new 170-horsepower, 2.0-liter engine. Side-impact airbags and ABS are now standard across all trims.

Pros:
  • Huge fun factor, precise steering and handling, low base price, economical to operate.
Cons:
  • A few questionable interior plastics, still snug for large adults.

  • Better Than I Expected - 2006 Mazda MX-5 Miata

After 3 years of driving the MX5 Im impressed with nearly everything about the car. Although I only give it a 7 for comfort, it is very good for this size sports car. I thought a 2 hour drive would be all I could take when we first purchased the car. This fall my wife and I completed a 4 day trip on the Blue Ridge Parkway and my back and seat were no worse for the wear. However, I had just put on new Bridgestones, which out performed the stock Michelins in every way. This car is all about fun. It is a car for those who love to drive. Driving the MX5 is like operating a point and shoot camera. The car just goes wherever you point without any fuss and looks great while doing it.

What a great car. I love the velocity red! The rims are a nice bonus. I would really push you to get a Limited if you can get your hands on one. This car handles like a dream.

Only had it about 10 days, but I cant get out of it. Hardly had the top up. Great little machine! Superb handling and driveabaility. Body style is eye-catching and gets lots of stares and compliments. Engine performance is excellent for a 2 liter 4 and is more entertaining than any car I have ever owned. Very responsive.

  • A Nice Fit - 2006 Mazda MX-5 Miata

The new MX-5 version for 2006 is a significant upgrade. It retains the sports car feel linked back to European sports cars of the 50s through 70s with style and comfort upgrades consistent with higher-end models. There is plenty of comfort for the driver and passenger.

Absolutely the most fun car that I have ever driven! Loaded with Bose sound system and Sirius satellite radio, really blasts out the tunes. Seems like every stop light I get praises about the car - Copper Red really flashes. Big guy - 61" and 240 but more than adequate room in the interior. Much easier entry/exit for my wife but I do not have any problems with the space. ZOOM, ZOOM - BTW, personal license now reads "Smilin"... and I am!

  • Awesome roadster - 2006 Mazda MX-5 Miata

This car is just a blast to drive. After looking at the competition this became an easy choice. It just felt right from the moment I got in the car, put the top down, and took off. It think it looks great without being overbearing like the expensive roadsters. The car is just simplistic and fun!

Traded 2002 for this true red Club Spec and with a little over a 1,000 miles Im glad I did. No a/c, no cruise, no fog lights, all the things that went to waste in my 02 became a real selling point. The 5 speed shifts like a knife in butter and with the lights in low beam I can actually see! The 02 was quick but the Club Spec is quick and you dont even realize it. The cup holder doesnt bother me, after a week I dont even notice it.

This car is a riot to drive. Quick, agile, fun! Shifts in the manual 6 speed are short and neat.

Ive had my MX-5 for a week now and am thrilled! Ive been an Honda/Acura owner for 20+ years so my standards are high. Very quick/fast, great gas mileage, easy open/close top. Wish it had a space for change, cup holder on driver side hits knee. Ride is a little stiff but it is a sports car not luxury sedan. Great road grip, steering response. Small trunk will still fit my golf bag (less driver).

This car is a blast to drive! The fit and quality of the exterior and interior are very good to excellent. The road noise at highway speed is acceptable, you can still have a conversation with your passenger. The car has plenty of power, you dont even need to down-shift when passing at highway speed. The short shift close ratio gear box is precise and easy to use. The cup holders in the center console are pretty useless as anything in them will impede shifting. Gas mileage has averaged about 25MPG but that is with a lot of city driving. And .. ITS FUN TO DRIVE!
